Nai wants Afghan Journalist Ali Mohaqiq Nasab to be released
Nai Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan calls upon the Afghan Government and in particular the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to ensure the release of Afghan Journalist Ali Mohaqiq Nasab who was arrested last week by the Iranian Ministry of Information in Qum city.
Ali Mohaqiq Nasab, Editor in chief for a Women Rights Magazine was arrested on March 4 2008 by the Iranian Ministry of Information. No official allegations have been made against him.
In a statement to the media Mr. Nasab’s wife said that she had gone to the Embassy of Afghanistan in Tehran and asked for help. The embassy told her that they are unable to help her with her husband’s case.
Nai is disturbed by this answer from the Afghan embassy in Tehran. For Afghan’s living and working in Iran the embassy is the most powerful diplomatic authority in Iran. If they cannot help who can? Nasab’s family have told the media that they have not received any information from Iranian authorities on the fate of Mr. Nasab.
It is worth mentioning that two years ago Nasab was detained for a period of 8 months in Afghanistan. He was subsequently released and cleared of all charges.
Ali Mohaqiq Nasab must be released as soon as possible to Afghan authorities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs via the presidential office.
